Autosomal Recessive Nonsyndromic Congenital Nuclear Cataract

Common Name(s)

Autosomal Recessive Nonsyndromic Congenital Nuclear Cataract

Autosomal recessive nonsyndromic congenital nuclear cataracts is a rare disorder. Individuals with this condition are born with a clouding of the lenses, which are structures within the eyes that help to focus light and help you see. Cataracts affect vision and can make it seem as if you were seeing through a foggy window. This condition is inherited in an autosomal recessive manner which means that though it runs in families, the parents usuallly were not born with cataracts and there is a high chance that not all of their children will be born with cataracts. The condition is considered nonsyndromic, because the only birth defects present are the cataracts. This condition can be corrected with surgery.
