Cataract Microphthalmia Septal Defect

Also known as oculo-facio-cardio-dental syndrome, cataract microphthalmia septal defect is an extremely rare combination of birth defects, or syndrome. Individuals with this condition have a clouding of the lenses of the eyes, abnormally small eyes, and a hole in the inner walls of the heart. This condition is usually caused by an infection while in the womb. This can be diagnosed by a comprehensive pediatric and genetic evaluation. There are resources to help manage this condition and to treat birth defects, such as corrective surgery for cataracts or heart defects.
