Macular dystrophy retinal 1 North Carolina type

North Carolina macular dystrophy (NCMD) is a congenital disorder, meaning that individuals are born with the condition. It is characterized by decreased vision caused by damage to the macula, the area of the eye responsible for central vision. Patients with NCMD have relatively good vision compared to other macular dystrophies and patients typically do not lose color vision. There are currently no treatments for macular dystrophies.
