Mycobacterium tuberculosis, susceptibility to infection by

Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) can cause tuberculosis (TB), a disease that affects lung function. It is estimated that more than one-third of the world's population has Mtb infection; however, only one in ten people infected with TB bacteria develop active TB disease. Certain people have a higher risk of Mtb infection based on certain factors such as weakened immune system, geographic location, poverty, substance abuse, and work environment. There is a vaccine available that can significantly lower your chances of getting TB.
