Pulmonar arterioveinous aneurysm

Common Name(s)

Pulmonar arterioveinous aneurysm

Pulmonary arteriovenous aneurysm is a rare disorder affecting vessels that carry blood within the lung. It is caused by an abnormal connection between two blood vessels, specifically the pulmonary arteries and pulmonary veins. Ultimately, this condition can cause problems related to blood by-passing the lungs or weakness of the actual vessel walls themselves. Aneurysms tend to increase in size, presenting a danger of rupture. When aneuryms rupture, they can cause large amounts bleeding and often require emergent treatment. Treatment usually involves surgery.
