Pulmonary hypoplasia familial primary

Common Name(s)

Pulmonary hypoplasia familial primary

Pulmonary hypoplasia familial primary, also known as lung agenesis, is a rare malformation, usually lethal, condition presenting only after birth without other abnormalities. Hypoplasia means underdevelopment or incomplete development of a tissue or organ.Agenesis means the organ did not develop at all. In this case, the lungs fail to develop properly or are missing completely. While some birth defects are able to be managed with medications or surgery, substantial hypoplasia or complete agenesis is incompatible with life.
