Hurthle cell thyroid cancer, also known as follicular thyroid cancer, makes up about 3% of all thyroid cancers. The thyroid secretes hormones that are essential for regulating your body's metabolism. Symptoms of hurthle cell thyroid cancer is a fast-growing lump in the neck just below the adam's apple, pain in the neck or throat, hoarseness or other changes in voice, or difficulty swallowing. After diagnosis, if there is minimal invasion of the tumor, treatment may be removal of all of their thyroid tissue followed with radioactive iodine.
