Thyroid cancer, childhood

Thyroid cancer is the third most common solid tumor cancer type in children and the most common type of cancer of hormone glands in children. Symptoms usually appear as a lump in the thyroid or neck that is not painfull. For children, surgery is the main treatment and depending on the type of cancer, chemotherapy or radiation therapy may also be given after surgery. Many children with thyroid cancer have a family history of the condition.
