Treponema infection

Treponema infections occur when a treponema bacterium infects the body. Treponema describes a specific genus of bacteria. Infections by treponema are commonly found in the skin, causing symptoms associated with skin problems. Treponema infections by treponema pallidum can cause syphilis and yaws. Both syphilis and yaws can be treated with the antibiotic penicillin.
