Tyrosine kinase 2 deficiency is a genetic disorder that affects the immune system. The immune system is the part of the body that fights infections. An individual with tyrosine kinase 2 deficiency has a higher chance of getting a bacterial infection after they are receive the BCG (bacille Calmette-Guerin) vaccine for tuberculosis (TB). Some individuals with tyrosine kinase 2 deficiency may also have a higher chance of getting infections from other organisms, like viruses or fungi. Tests show that someone with tyrosine kinase 2 deficiency has enough immune cells to fight against disease, but the immune cells are not all functional. Someone with tyrosine kinase 2 deficiency also has high levels of the antibody IgE in the blood. If you or a family member has been diagnosed with tyrosine kinase 2 deficiency, talk with your doctor about the most current treatment options. Support groups are also good resources of support and information.
